Highlights from the Virginia Beauty Show

On March 14th, 2010, I went to the Virginia Beauty Show, which was held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond, VA. My main reason for attending this show was for the classes they were offering! There was a Malaysian weave class, advanced color classes, several cutting classes, finishing classes and more. There was also a judged competition. I came back home with so much new information! This Show also encouraged me to enter a competition myself in the future.. possibly as soon as October 2010. Stay tuned for more about that! Here are some photographs of some of the things I saw while there. Hope you enjoy!

Merry Midnight

While I’m still rocking my Minx, I did recently get my hands on OPI’s Holiday Wishes collection. I love sparkly polish and instantly fell in love with the one called Merry Midnight. It’s a vampy dark purple with gold and purple glitter and red sparkle flakes. It was really just bursting with sparkle!

This is definately a holiday shade that I can find myself wearing throughout the next year and beyond. Another purple shade to add to the purple takeover that is going on in my life right now..LOL. Enjoy!

NOTD – Zoya Yasmeen

Posted by ArondaMUA | Posted in Hair | Posted on 07-11-2009

yasmeen pennyAnyone who knows me knows that I’m a pink girl. I LOVE pink. However, I find myself all of a sudden surrounded by shade of purple. I mean it’s everywhere! My winter pajamas are purple. I’ve been wearing a lot of purple makeup. My puppy’s carrier is purple.

Alas, this new purple trend of mine has hit my nail polish stash. I ordered several new purples, and Yasmeen by Zoya has won me over. I think it’s possibly the most lovely purple nail polish I have ever seen.

It’s a rich, royal purple with a golden purple shimmer, and I’m smitten. It may be a while before you guys see another NOTD on this blog because I might be wearing this one for a while. I paired it with a ’Power Pinky’ using Zoya Penny which is a coppery glimmer that works well with Yasmeen. Zoya has done it again for me.

luxxtress

Here’s what Nexxus says about the product line and the product:

Phyto Organics

ORGANIC NATURAL HAIR CARE

Formulated with organic quinoa protein, rare aromatherapeutic oils and exotic botanicals from around the world, Phyto Organics refreshes, restores and rejuvenates the hair.

Luxxtress

Leave In Hair Moisturizer

Conditions and detangles. Sunscreen shields hair from damaging UV rays. Green Tea and Vitamins A & E help protect against heat and environmental stress.
————————————————————————————————
Now, all I have to say is “Gimme all you got!” like Hov said. This leave in moisturizer is fabulous! It left my  hair soft, supple, and gave me lots of shine. I used this product along with shampoo and conditioners also in the Phyto Organics line, and they worked together to give me fabulous strengthened hair.

I guess what really makes me rave about this product is the fact that I used it on my natural, unrelaxed hair and also on my hair extensions, both with excellent results. When I shampooed my Remi hair, I sprayed a little Luxxtress on it while it was still wet and it pretty much brought it back to life. I am very impressed with this product. It’s light, full of good stuff like vitamins and protein, and smells amazing. I use it on all of my clients!

So… my old laptop crashed on me, and

I lost all my pictures and video! That really sucks for me, but I’m sure it won’t take long for me to add new pics to my arsenal. I had this bad habit of taking pics and taking my sweet time to post them, and now I realize how bad of an idea that was. There are pics that are now lost forever.

On a happier note, I learned a new technique for foiling highlights called the 7 foil technique. It’s a great starter for people who are new to color and want to begin with something that is gradual and subtle, but also gives noticeable and fabulous results. I will be offering this service in the future and will also show you all some pics of the work I’ve already done with this technique.

My self induced hiatus with posting is a direct result of just being too busy working and with school stuff, but I will do my best to do better in the future (I know I always say that..LOL). Until then…

My Craigslist Ad!

I’ve decided to post an Ad for hair services on Craigslist to test the waters and see if this is truly a valuable tool or not. I’ve been discussing it with several people and I have heard pretty good things about it. It can’t hurt right? This is just a basic pricelist ad but in the future I’ll add pictures to my posts on there. They only allow you to post once every 48 hours for the same service so I’ll abide by those rules for one month and see what it does for me. Wish me luck!

Lash Crazy

1

Posted by ArondaMUA | Posted in Hair | Posted on 07-08-2009

I must admit I’ve been going false eyelash crazy lately! From the strips to the individuals, I cannot get enough. It’s hard to believe there was a time when I was scared of them! I think I was just intimidated by the process as far as the application, and soon realized that applying both strip and individual lashes is a breeze, needing only patience, practice and a good pair of tweezers.

Since I’ve been in school, I’ve noticed that I’m becoming the makeup/lashes go to girl! Almost every day someone asks me to put a set of lashes on them, or someone asks me how I do my makeup or something along those lines. I am thankful for this, as practice is always good. I’m kinda self taught, and haven’t received formal training on applying them. I just do it how I think it will look nice and natural. I like a dramatic lash for myself, but not too dark or fake looking. I like to use the Ardell Natural Lash for individuals, but with the strips I play around much more. I’ll wear just about any strip because I think they are meant to be fun, and you can take them right off at the end of the day.

I’ve been online looking for discounted eyelash strips that I can buy in bulk, because I want to add a free strip eyelash application with every service that I do. You know, for the people who want it! It’s like a double whammy… it’s nice for the guest, and practice for me.

I went on the mighty Ebay website, and was very happy to find that bulk eyelashes is a pretty popular item there! I found sets of 10 to 100 (pairs) of lashes from $3.75 to about $18. That’s not per pair, that’s for the whole set! Pretty amazing right? So of course I’m skeptical about the quality of 38 cent lashes. Luckily, they also had listings for single pairs of lashes, I guess so you can try them out before you go buy 100 pairs. I ordered a couple of the single lashes in a few different styles. The single lashes were about 50 cent and shipped free. Sweet.

The eyelashes ship from Hong Kong so they take forever to come, and I’ve received my first pair already. They were pretty good quality, and I will be buying many many more pairs in different styles to add on to my service. I’m excited!
